C Parker's Art

Corinne F. Parker

I grew up on the West Coast of Canada within earshot of the ocean and her winter storms. This environment has shaped my perception of the world, it informs the rhythms that underlie my work. I am fascinated by light and the interplay of forms that repeat continually throughout our world.

I started creating art with black ink and paper, enjoying the simplicity of the medium, then in my teens, moving into water colour. Training as a draftsperson in the days when the work was done by hand, gave me the skill of discipline to bring to my art.

I was all set to go back to school to upgrade my drafting to computer when the lure of the studios and excellent art programs at North Island College led me astray. I ditched the drafting and moved into fine art full time.

In college, introduced to acrylic and the sheer size possible with canvas, I fell in love with pure powerful colours.

Later, I spent a year in Montreal studying at art at Concordia University, then travelled to Indonesia to study their amazing Batik art processes. I have had the good fortune to work with many of amazing artists. I spent another decade immersed in silkscreen. Over the years I have explored many mediums, most recently copperplate etching.

Having arrived on Pender just ahead of the Pandemic, I have finally got my studio functioning again. I am enjoying the opportunity to show new work from this new chapter of my life.

Whether it is providing an emotional experience of peace and joy or a sympathetic understanding of anger and despair, or beating on the doors of convention; I believe an artist’s role is to provide a different point of view, to take the ordinary and re-present it.

I hope you enjoy my work.
